Asia Pacific Security Conference (APSEC 2012)
12 & 13 February 2012
Raffles City Convention Centre
Canning Room & Padang
Since its inception in 2002, APSEC has not only succeeded in drawing expert speakers from around the world, but has grown to be an important event for defence officials, military personnel, academics, analysts and industry leaders from around the world to meet and to exchange views on current international concerns.
Sustained economic growth has brought prosperity to many Asia-Pacific nations, particularly China and India. As these nations increasingly assert themselves internationally, how regional and extra-regional stakeholders manage this changing geopolitical landscape will determine the security of the Asia-Pacific. Centred on the theme ‘The Changing Geopolitical Landscape of the Asia Pacific’, the conference will focus on two principal topics - Future Political, Economic and Diplomatic Challenges and Military Modernisation.
The Changing Geopolitical Landscape of the Asia Pacific
The emergence of Asian nations as major global players is likely to transform the Asia Pacific geopolitical landscape, with an impact potentially as dramatic as the rise of the United States in the 20th century. In particular, the rapid growth of China and India in the political, economic as well as military spheres has been impressive. As potential global leaders, how China and India will behave as strategic actors will be fundamental to the future strategic environment of Asia.
